Breville 800JEXL Fountain Elite Review

The Centrifugal Juicer That'll Always Be At Your Side

Looking for a quick juicer in the kitchen that packs a punch and is easy to clean? How about something that doesn’t break the bank and looks cool too? The Breville 800JEXL might just be the answer to all those questions, let’s find out if that’s the case — in our review.

The Juicer

The Breville 800JEXL is a centrifugal juicer that bares a strong relation to its less muscled, all-plastic cousin, the Breville Plus JE98XL. Available for about $300 on Amazon, the 800JEXL features a sturdy all-metal build and more powerful motor than its cheaper cousin, which goes for exactly half the price at $150 on Amazon.

Is the extra $150 worth paying for the steel model? Well, that depends on what you plan on using it for. It would be a perfect investment for the professional kitchen or a home that juices often and never really needs to move the juicer.

And while the motor is not exceedingly more powerful than the plastic version, it does juice quite a bit faster–making the Breville 800JEXL the perfect choice for a sturdy, quick and immobile juicer. It’s built to last, that much is for sure.

All parts but one (the filter) are dishwasher safe, however, it’s much quicker and easier to clean up the parts straight away with warm sudsy water. The good news is, the box comes with a multi-purpose cleaning brush, and bio-degradable bags can be bought from Breville or of course, good old Amazon.

Two final notes about the Breville 800JEXL before we move onto the next segment of our review: first, the machine drips a tiny bit of juice after every squeeze, so remember to put some sort of paper towel beneath the nozzle. Secondly, it is very loud: basically slightly louder than the average blender.

The Juice

The good part...

The juicer machine sports more than enough power to juice through anything that’s not solid, like a peach pit; although it cannot handle orange, lemon and tangerine skin. But apples can be juiced whole without pre-cutting (though this is not an advised way to juice apples), pineapple skin is also a breeze to cut through, and vegetable like carrots, cucumbers and celery do just fine under the blades.

Stuff like spinach, kale, cabbage and other less…juicy vegetables take a noticeable hit in yield when put under the cutting edge of Breville 800JEXL’s blades. Honestly, just stick to juicing fruits that are larger than a peach, because my experiments with grapes, berries and kiwi fruits didn’t really yield any noteworthy…you know, yield.

Now onto the pulp, which despite looking very dry, actually manages to retain a respectable amount of moisture. This can be good news on two fronts, the first being that it can be reused in a cooking stock or similar affair, and the second one being that you can simply re-run it through the juicer for a trickle more of juice. Otherwise, there is some juice left in the pulp that does go to waste, but that’s just how centrifugal juicers roll.

Here is a little video demo

The Tech Specs

Down to the nitty gritty

Okay, being a nerd, this is my favorite part of the review–number crunching. The Breville 800JEXL sports two speeds. Slow, which rotates the machine at 6,500 RPM, and high, which pumps the action up to 13,000 RPM.

The blades are titanium reinforced and very sharp (don’t ever stick any fingers or similar body parts down there), and the juicer comes with a 1 liter jug for the juice while the pulp container rocks about 3 liters.

A red colored safety lock button (hiding underneath the machine) shuts it off in case of overheating, once the machine has cooled off, pressing it again activates the masticating juicer — this is also a child safety lock device.

Final Verdict

Should you buy a Breville juicer?

My final verdict on the Breville 800JEXL? Simple, it’s one of the better centrifugal juicers out there, provided you want a very fast juicer that is not easily portable. However, for those on a shorter budget who don’t mind an all plastic juicer, the cheaper Breville Fountain Plus JE98XL is a perfectly awesome alternative for exactly half the price.
